AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE32X5 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP32X5 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø32mm bore and 5mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE32X5 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ASP32X5 is a single acting push, spring-return compact cylinder: air extends the 12 mm rod and an internal spring retracts it, so only one air line is needed and it rests normally retracted. With a 32 mm bore it delivers 352.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa (513.4 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. Its hard-anodized aluminium body is an ISO 21287 short build that saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
Practical sizing: at 0.5 MPa the net thrust converts to about 35.9 kgf, so plan on lifting roughly 18 kg vertically once you keep a 2:1 margin. The 5 mm stroke suits short eject, clamp and confirm moves. This model is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ASE32X5 (swap the P for an E, same bore, stroke and force class); confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. Note this unit has no -S code, so no magnet is fitted and no CMSE / DMSE switch can be read; order the optional -S magnet if position sensing is needed.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 352.5 N net push at 0.5 MPa seats small aluminium brackets into a drill jig; the 5 mm stroke is enough for the final clamp move and the spring clears the part when air drops.
Short confirm probes on carton check fixtures use the 5 mm stroke to verify a flap is seated; with the optional -S magnet a CMSE switch signals extend, and the spring retracts between cycles.
On an electronics assembly nest, the rod nudges finished connectors off a locating pin; one solenoid valve drives it since a single air line extends the rod and the spring returns it.
Compare against neighbours: the ASP25X5 gives 210.1 N at 0.5 MPa if your load is lighter, while the ASP40X5 reaches 556.8 N for heavier clamps. Because the spring retracts the rod on air loss, the rod always returns home and will not hold a mid-stroke position. Mounting choices are FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches. For new builds, specify the ASE32X5 instead - it is the current ISO 21287 successor in the same force class.
