This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE40X15B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE40X15B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X15B

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X15B is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 15mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE40X15B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X15B

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the discontinued ASP40X15B extends its 12 mm rod with air and retracts on the built-in spring, needing only one air line and a minimum of 0.2 MPa to beat the spring. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 556.8 N of push net of the spring, and 808.1 N at 0.7 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot go.

For sizing, treat roughly 334 N (about 0.6 of the 0.5 MPa rating) as the usable working force, which lifts around 28 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The male rod thread (the B code) suits rod knuckles and external tooling, and a fixed TPU bumper at each end absorbs end-of-travel impact. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ASE40X15, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE40X15B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø40mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)

0.7 MPa808.1 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X15B Is Used

compress

Bench-top press fixture

The 556.8 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to seat small bearings or press-fit dowels in a compact assembly jig, with the spring retracting the plunger the moment air is released.

precision_manufacturing

Robot gripper actuation

A 15 mm stroke and male rod thread make this a clean single-line actuator for gripper arms on pick-and-place cells handling parts up to roughly 28 kg with margin.

packaging

Carton hold-down clamp

In packaging machines the short body fits inside tight guarding to push a hold-down pad over cartons, and the spring return clears the path automatically on air loss.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X15B with the ASE40X15B

At 0.5 MPa this bore pushes 556.8 N net of the spring; step down to a 32 mm bore (352.5 N) for lighter clamping or up to a 50 mm bore (875.5 N) for heavier work. The 15 mm stroke sits within the standard range for this bore, so no made-to-order stroke is needed. If you need position sensing, order the -S code to add the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches - this ASP40X15B has no magnet fitted. On air loss the spring drives the rod home retracted, so it will not hold a mid-stroke position. Mount with FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis brackets, and specify the ASE40X15 as the current drop-in replacement.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE40X15B
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X15B FAQ

Push is 556.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 808.1 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. It is single acting push with spring return, bore 40 mm, stroke 15 mm, 12 mm rod with male thread, 1/8" port, operating pressure 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, speed 50-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um. The model is discontinued; the ASE40X15 is the current replacement.

The compact aluminium body follows the short ISO 21287 class and saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it fits shallow fixtures and guarded zones. A fixed TPU bumper at each end simply decelerates the rod at the ends of travel; it never locks or holds a load, and on air loss the spring returns the rod to the retracted home position.
