AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE40X5 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X5 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 5mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE40X5 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a single acting push cylinder with spring return: compressed air extends the rod and an internal spring pulls it back home, so only one air line is needed. The 40 mm bore delivers 556.8 N of push at 0.5 MPa and 808.1 N at 0.7 MPa, both figures already net of the spring, and it starts working from just 0.2 MPa. ASP40X5 is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ASE40X5 (swap the P for an E), which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since this model follows the DIN-standard footprint.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into cramped jigs and fixtures where a full-length body will not fit. For real-world sizing, expect about 334 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 28 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, and the rod ends in a female M8x1.25 thread with a 1/8" air port. Note there is no magnet fitted - order the -S code if you want CMSE / DMSE switch capability.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 5 mm kick from the 12 mm rod pops a finished bushing out of a drill jig, with the spring retracting the pin so the next blank can drop in.
The 556.8 N push at 0.5 MPa holds a thin bracket against a stop during spot welding, and the spring releases it instantly when air is cut.
On a packaging line the short-stroke push nudges a carton flap into place before taping, fitting into the tight space beside the tape head.
Check the force both ways: the 32 mm bore gives 352.5 N at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to the 50 mm bore raises it to 875.5 N. If your part needs 556.8 N at 0.5 MPa, ASP40X5 is the match. Remember that on air loss the spring drives the rod fully retracted - it will not hold a mid-stroke position, so plan your rest state accordingly. Mounting options are FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches for end-of-stroke sensing. For new projects, specify ASE40X5 instead, as this model is out of production.

It is the current-production drop-in with the same 40 mm bore, 5 mm stroke and force class, plus the same FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mounting family.
