Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB125X700S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB125X700S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø125mm bore, 700mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB125X700S

The AirTAC SAILB125X700-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because it is a SAILB variant, the spring-applied, air-released lock engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end. It safely holds a static load in the rod-in position without requiring live pressure. With a 125mm bore, it delivers 6136N pull force at 0.5MPa, making it suitable for heavy vertical lifting. The standard carbon steel rod provides durable service, and the integrated -S magnet works seamlessly with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors.

This model features a 700mm stroke and operates at speeds of 30-500mm/s. A key design detail is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 24mm, which is shorter than the 40mm cushion found on the free end. Remember that this lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake, and it only clamps at the stroke terminal rather than at an arbitrary mid-stroke point.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB125X700S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds heavy lifted loads securely in the retracted position during a sudden power loss or air pressure drop.

shield

Machine Guard Hold

Keeps a safety guard or heavy door locked in the rod-in position until the release air is actively supplied.

factory

Clamp and Secure

Maintains a rigid clamped state at the stroke end without consuming continuous compressed air.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB125X700S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 125mm bore if your application requires substantial lifting power, delivering 6136N of pull force at 0.5MPa. If your load requires less force, stepping down to a 100mm bore provides 3681N of pull, while stepping up to a 160mm bore yields 9425N. Select the SAILB configuration when you need the load secured in the retracted position; choose SAILF instead if the extended rod-out position must be held. If your mechanism requires locking at an intermediate point along the stroke, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead of this stroke-end model.

For this 700mm stroke, adding an external guide is recommended to prevent excessive side-load wear on the seals. To maintain lock integrity, avoid using a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can accidentally release the lock; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. If human safety depends on the load remaining retracted, add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement parts must match the 125mm bore, 700mm stroke, back locker position, PT port thread, and -S magnet specification.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB125X700S FAQ

At a 0.5MPa operating pressure, the 125mm bore provides 6136N of pull force and 8590N of push force. At 0.7MPa, the pull force increases to 8590N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only at the retracted stroke end. It provides a static hold, not a dynamic brake. You can unlock it automatically by supplying release air or by using the manual release lever.
