A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.
Sixteen small valves that would otherwise need sixteen feed fittings share one inlet and one wiring route on a single machined sub-plate.

Sixteen positions suit a packaging or assembly machine with a large set of single-acting outputs. Order each valve against its job: normally closed where a loss of power must leave the outlet vented, normally open where it must stay pressurised; a coil voltage identical to the panel supply, since it cannot be changed by rewiring; DIN plug or flying lead to match the cabinet wiring. We do not hold published flow data for this family, so have us check each valve against its actuator before ordering. Where documented flow and coil power matter up front, the AirTAC 3V2 and 3V3 valve bodies are the fully specified choice, and any double-acting cylinder belongs on the 5-port 4V series.
