AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE50X10B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X10B is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø50mm bore and 10mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE50X10B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP50X10B uses shop air to extend the rod and an internal spring to retract it, so only one air line is needed and the rod sits retracted whenever pressure drops. In the 50 mm bore the net push force is 875.5 N at 0.5 MPa and 1268.2 N at 0.7 MPa, already measured against the spring, and the cylinder starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. The B code gives a male rod thread on the 16 mm rod, with a 1/8" supply port and PT thread.
The short ISO 21287 style body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight clamping fixtures and slide assemblies. As a working rule, plan on about 525 N (roughly 53 kg of push) at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating, which corresponds to lifting about 44 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ASE50X10, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

The 875.5 N net push at 0.5 MPa clamps aluminium housings in a 10 mm-stroke drill fixture, and the spring retracts the clamp instantly when the air is dumped.
Air extends the rod to push a finished bushing out of its nest; the 10 mm stroke matches shallow part pockets and the male rod thread takes a custom pushing tip.
A single air line holds a flap down during taping; on power loss the spring lifts the pad clear, and the short body fits inside the sealing gantry.
Size the bore against your real load: the 40 mm bore delivers 556.8 N at 0.5 MPa while the 63 mm bore reaches 1420.5 N, so the 50 mm at 875.5 N sits between them for medium clamping and pressing work. Keep strokes short - single acting designs lose force quickly on long strokes - and remember the spring returns the rod to its retracted home on air loss rather than holding a mid-stroke position. Mounting brackets (FA/FB flange, LB foot, CA/CB clevis) bolt to the standard face, and if you need position sensing, order the -S variant to enable CMSE / DMSE switches; this non-S code carries no magnet at all. For new projects, specify the ASE50X10 instead, as the ASP is out of production.
Replacement checklist
Net push (already subtracting the return spring) is 875.5 N at 0.5 MPa and 1268.2 N at 0.7 MPa. Operating range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, speed 50-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, and air filtered to 40 um. The 0.2 MPa minimum is what it takes to overcome the spring.
Switches need the optional -S magnet code; this ASP50X10B has no magnet, so no CMSE or DMSE sensor can be mounted on it as-is. The ASP family is discontinued - the current drop-in is the ASE50X10 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ASP follows the older DIN-standard footprint.
