The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID50X300S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø50mm bore, 300mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 1400 N.
The AirTAC BSAID50X300-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod configuration and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It provides a static holding force of 1400 N, gripping the rod securely at any position along its 300 mm travel. Because it is a double-rod actuator, it delivers equal thrust in both directions (825 N push and pull at 0.5 MPa), making it ideal for symmetrical load handling.
It is crucial to distinguish this 1400 N static holding force from the cylinder thrust; the clamp sustains the stationary load, while thrust dictates movement. The mechanism uses a third G1/8 enclasp port to release the grip, requiring balanced air pressure on both piston sides to unlock safely. Furthermore, the double-rod design allows you to mount a workpiece on one end and a guide or position flag on the opposite end, providing dual-side anti-rotation support.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 982 N | 825 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 1374 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (1400 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Locks a lifted load at any point along the 300 mm vertical travel with 1400 N of holding force, preventing drops during air pressure loss.
Secures a dual-sided workpiece fixture rigidly in place for machining or inspection, using the second rod end for a position flag.
Holds the mechanism securely mid-stroke after the cylinder stops during a power loss event, though an external safety measure is required for human safety.
Choose this double-rod model when an application demands equal force both ways and a secondary guide or tool mount on the opposite rod end. If you do not require a second rod, the single-rod BSAI50X300-S offers the same 1400 N holding force but with standard push/pull thrust asymmetry. For lighter vertical loads, the BSAI40 variant provides 900 N holding force and 528 N pull thrust at 0.5 MPa.
This clamp locks only after the piston has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. You must unlock it with balanced pressures to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly. For safety-critical applications, install an independent external safety measure. This PT-ported cylinder includes a -S magnet for CMSE (reed) and DMSE (solid-state) sensors. It accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts. Given the 300 mm stroke, the 20 mm rod and M16x1.5 thread handle moderate side loads, but an external guide is recommended for unsupported lengths.
Quick checklist
The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 1400 N. It is bidirectional and locks the rod at any position along the stroke, but only after the cylinder has stopped moving.
The clamp is spring-applied and air-released via a third G1/8 port. To prevent the rod from jumping, you must balance the air pressure on both sides of the piston before unlocking, as the clamp cannot brake a moving rod.
