Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB125X160S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB125X160S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø125mm bore, 160mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB125X160S

The AirTAC SAILB125X160-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, it automatically secures the rod at the retracted stroke-end the moment release air is cut, holding heavy vertical loads safely without relying on live pressure. In this -S configuration, a magnet enables position detection with AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic solid-state switches.

Delivering 6136N of push force at 0.5 MPa (up to 11045N at 0.9 MPa), it handles heavy-duty holding tasks. The extruded aluminum barrel includes sensor grooves on both sides, and the variable air cushion at the locker end is specifically shorter (24mm) than the free end (40mm) to accommodate the locking mechanism.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Secures elevated platforms or heavy lifting stages in the retracted position instantly upon power loss, preventing accidental drops.

shield

Machine Guard Hold

Holds safety gates and heavy machine guards firmly closed at the stroke end during operation without consuming continuous air.

precision_manufacturing

Clamp and Hold

Maintains high-force clamping pressure on heavy fabrication workpieces at the end of stroke, ensuring zero drift during machining.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB125X160S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 125mm bore when a 100mm bore (providing 3927N at 0.5 MPa) cannot safely hold your load, or step down if a 160mm bore (10053N) is required for heavier masses. Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be secured at the rod-in position; choose SAILF for extended-end holding. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end terminal, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

For safe operation, never use a fast-exhaust valve with this lock cylinder; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is mandatory because back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. This is a static holding lock that engages after the piston stops, not a dynamic brake. For human-safety-critical suspended loads, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement parts must match the 125mm bore, 160mm stroke, PT tapered ports, back-locker position, and -S magnet specification.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB125X160S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, the 125mm bore provides 6136N of push force and 5734N of pull force. At 0.9 MPa, the push force increases to 11045N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, meaning it engages automatically at the retracted stroke-end when release air is cut off. To unlock, supply air to the release port or use the manual release lever. It only holds statically at the stroke end and does not clamp mid-stroke.
