About the Airtac SC40 Standard Cylinder SC40X1475S

The SC40X1475S is a double-acting pneumatic cylinder with a 40 mm bore and an extended 1475 mm stroke, exceeding the standard 1200 mm maximum for this bore size. It delivers 628 N of push force at 0.5 MPa and 1130 N at the 0.9 MPa maximum operating pressure, driven by a 16 mm diameter piston rod.

This model includes a built-in magnet (-S suffix), allowing easy mounting of CMSG, DMSG, or EMSG reed and solid-state sensors directly onto the tie-rod barrel for precise end-of-stroke or mid-stroke position feedback. The cylinder uses PT1/4 ports, an M12x1.25 rod thread, and adjustable air cushioning with a 21 mm cushion length to decelerate the piston smoothly.

Long-Reach Material Pushing

The 1475 mm stroke and built-in magnet for sensor confirmation make it suitable for pushing products across wide conveyor beds or into packaging stations where full extension must be verified.

precision_manufacturing

Automated Gating Systems

Operates a tall vertical gate or diverter panel in agricultural or recycling lines. The -S magnet provides positive closed/open position signals to the PLC for interlock safety.

engineering

Custom Machine Tool Actuation

Used on custom sawmills or textile machines for a long linear stroke. The 16 mm rod requires external guidance, but the 1130 N max force handles moderate push/pull loads effectively.

Is the Airtac SC40 Standard Cylinder SC40X1475S the Right Cylinder?

Select the SC40 bore for applications needing 628 N at 0.5 MPa. If your force requirement is lower, consider stepping down to the SC32 bore (402 N at 0.5 MPa). For higher force, the SC50 bore provides 982 N at the same pressure. With a 1475 mm stroke, this cylinder has a very long, unsupported 16 mm rod; side loads or high-speed cycling can cause rod bending or bearing wear. An external guide rail or a guided cylinder is strongly recommended to protect the rod and seals.

When replacing an existing cylinder, match these five points: 40 mm bore, 1475 mm stroke, PT1/4 port thread, the built-in magnet for sensor feedback, and the basic (no bracket) mounting style. This tie-rod cylinder is not dimensionally interchangeable with ISO 15552 profile cylinders.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Required force at your working pressure
  • ✓ Stroke and mounting space
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/NPT/G)
  • ✓ Magnet (-S) for sensors?
  • ✓ Side load — consider a guided cylinder

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.15 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Adjust end cushion screws for smooth stops.
  • check Use correct mounting accessory (FA/FB/CA/CB/LB/TC).
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac SC40 Standard Cylinder SC40X1475S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, the push force is 628 N and the pull force is 528 N. At the maximum operating pressure of 0.9 MPa, the push force increases to 1130 N. The theoretical maximum force at 1.0 MPa is 128 kgf.

No, the maximum standard stroke for the SC40 bore is 1200 mm, making this a non-standard, made-to-order stroke. For any stroke over 300 mm, and especially at 1475 mm, the 16 mm rod is vulnerable to bending under side loads. You must use an external guide rail or a guided cylinder to ensure long service life.
