About the Airtac SC40 Standard Cylinder SC40X260

The SC40X260 is a double-acting pneumatic cylinder delivering 628 N of push force and 528 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, rising to 1130 N push at 0.9 MPa. With a 40 mm bore and 260 mm stroke, it uses a 16 mm diameter piston rod with M12x1.25 threads and PT1/4 ports. The total extended body length is approximately 402 mm, based on a 142 mm body length A.

This tie-rod cylinder includes an adjustable air cushion (21 mm length) at both ends to decelerate the piston smoothly, reducing end-of-stroke impact. The standard TPU seals provide a reliable operating temperature range of -20 to +70 °C. For position sensing, a CMSG/DMSG sensor can be added later by selecting the magnet-equipped -S variant.

Where the Airtac SC40 Standard Cylinder SC40X260 Is Used

conveyor_belt

Packaging Gate Actuation

The 260 mm stroke and 628 N push force at 0.5 MPa make the SC40X260 ideal for diverting cartons or packages on a conveyor line, providing a clean, repeatable linear motion for medium-speed sorting gates.

precision_manufacturing

Clamping & Light Pressing

With 1130 N of force available at 0.9 MPa, this cylinder suits light-duty clamping, holding, or pressing fixtures in assembly jigs, where a compact tie-rod design fits into tight machine spaces.

agriculture

Ventilation Damper Control

The 260 mm stroke is well-suited for opening and closing ventilation dampers or hopper slide gates in agricultural processing, operating reliably on filtered compressed air with the standard PT1/4 port.

Is the Airtac SC40 Standard Cylinder SC40X260 the Right Cylinder?

Choose the SC40 when your application needs between 500 and 900 N of force at standard plant pressure; the SC40X260 sits between the smaller SC32 (402 N push at 0.5 MPa) and the larger SC50 (982 N push at 0.5 MPa). For strokes of 260 mm, ensure the load is guided and axial—side loading on the 16 mm rod can cause premature bearing wear or rod bending. Always use an external guide or rod-eye joint if any lateral force is present.

For a direct replacement, match five points: 40 mm bore, 260 mm stroke, PT1/4 port thread, basic (no bracket) mounting, and no magnet. This model is a standard SC tie-rod cylinder and is not dimensionally interchangeable with ISO 15552 profile cylinders.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Required force at your working pressure
  • ✓ Stroke and mounting space
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/NPT/G)
  • ✓ Magnet (-S) for sensors?
  • ✓ Side load — consider a guided cylinder

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.15 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Adjust end cushion screws for smooth stops.
  • check Use correct mounting accessory (FA/FB/CA/CB/LB/TC).
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac SC40 Standard Cylinder SC40X260 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, the push force is 628 N and the pull force is 528 N. At the maximum operating pressure of 0.9 MPa, the push force reaches 1130 N. The theoretical maximum force at 1.0 MPa is 128 kgf.

No, the AirTAC SC series is a tie-rod cylinder and is physically shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. It is not dimensionally interchangeable. It directly replaces another AirTAC SC40 cylinder with the same stroke, port, and mounting configuration.
