This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is SAUD80X160 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the SAUD80X160 in place of this model. The SAU replacement uses the same profile body, bore, stroke, force and SC-series mounting. It moves to the current CMSG / DMSG / EMSG sensor switches (the SU used CS1-B / DS1-B) and adds the SAUF valve-integrated option.

About the Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD80X160

The AirTAC SUD80X160 is a double-acting, double-rod profile cylinder featuring an extruded aluminum barrel that is more compact than an ISO 15552 cylinder of the same bore. Because a rod exits both ends on one piston, both faces use the rod-side area, meaning push and pull force are equal both ways at 2268 N @0.5 MPa, 3175 N @0.7 MPa, and 4082 N @0.9 MPa. This SUD80X160 model is discontinued and the exact drop-in replacement is the SAUD80X160, which retains the 80mm bore, 160mm stroke, 3/8" port, and FA/LB mounting.

The double-rod design provides excellent anti-rotation stability and allows the back rod to drive a second tool simultaneously. Based on the 2268 N @0.5 MPa force, the computed safe working load is approximately 1361 N, translating to a vertical lift capacity of about 116 kg with a 2:1 margin. Note that this specific SKU lacks a magnet and cannot take a magnetic switch; furthermore, a plain cylinder does not hold its load on air loss—the air cushion only decelerates near stroke end, so an external rod lock is required for held loads.

Where the Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD80X160 Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Dual-Station Push Operation

Drives two opposing tooling heads simultaneously using both extending rods, ensuring perfectly synchronized part forming on a 160mm stroke.

conveyor_belt

Anti-Rotation Transfer Arm

Moves components between conveyor belts with high torsional resistance, preventing rod twist during rapid 30-800 mm/s lateral transfers.

warehouse

Compact Vertical Lifter

Lifts loads up to 116 kg vertically using the equal both ways force, fitting into tight machinery envelopes where standard cylinders are too long.

Replacing the Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD80X160 with the SAUD80X160

To replace the discontinued SUD80X160, select the drop-in SAUD80X160, which matches the 80mm bore, 160mm stroke, 3175 N equal-both-ways force @0.7 MPa, and FA/LB mounting. When sizing both ways, verify that your load requirements fit between the 63mm bore (1962 N @0.7 MPa) and 100mm bore (5153 N @0.7 MPa) neighbor options. A double rod is right when you need anti-rotation stability or must drive two tools from one piston. Because this SKU has no magnet (-S), it cannot support sensing; upgrading to the SAUD requires changing legacy CS1-B/DS1-B sensors to current CMSG/DMSG/EMSG models. For stroke lengths >=300, verify side-load limits to prevent guide wear.

Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD80X160 FAQ

Yes, the SUD80X160 is discontinued. The exact drop-in replacement is the SAUD80X160, which matches the 80mm bore, 160mm stroke, 3/8" port, and FA/LB mounting. You will need to upgrade legacy CS1-B/DS1-B sensors to current CMSG/DMSG/EMSG models.

The SUD80X160 features a 3/8" port and delivers equal force both ways: 2268 N @0.5 MPa, 3175 N @0.7 MPa, and 4082 N @0.9 MPa. This yields a safe working load of ~1361 N and a vertical lift capacity of ~116 kg with a 2:1 margin.
