About the Airtac SC100 Standard Cylinder SC100X398

The AirTAC SC100X398 is a double-acting tie-rod cylinder delivering a substantial 3927 N of push force when supplied with 0.5 MPa air pressure. With a 100 mm bore and a 398 mm stroke, this model is built for medium-to-heavy linear actuation tasks where a robust, non-ISO 15552 footprint is acceptable. The 25 mm diameter piston rod provides excellent rigidity for pushing and pulling loads.

This cylinder features a body length A of 188 mm, resulting in a total extended length of approximately 586 mm. It incorporates an adjustable pneumatic cushion (29 mm length) to decelerate the piston smoothly at both ends of the stroke, reducing impact noise and vibration. Operating on filtered air from 0.15 to 1.0 MPa, the standard TPU seals provide a reliable service range of -20 to +70 °C.

Where the Airtac SC100 Standard Cylinder SC100X398 Is Used

warehouse

Pallet Lift Assist

Provides the 3927 N push force at 0.5 MPa needed to elevate or position pallets in low-level warehouse automation, ensuring smooth movement with adjustable end-of-stroke cushioning.

precision_manufacturing

Heavy Part Clamping

Ideal for welding or assembly fixtures requiring a strong, consistent clamping force. The 100 mm bore and 398 mm stroke secure large fabrications during processing.

conveyor_belt

Divert Gate Actuator

Operates a heavy-duty diverter gate on a conveyor line. The 25 mm rod and tie-rod construction withstand the repetitive impact of redirecting packages or bulk materials.

Is the Airtac SC100 Standard Cylinder SC100X398 the Right Cylinder?

Select the SC100X398 when your application requires a force class of around 4000 N at standard plant pressure. If your load is lighter, stepping down to an 80 mm bore (2513 N push at 0.5 MPa) can reduce air consumption and physical size. For heavier loads, the 125 mm bore provides 6136 N at the same pressure. Always match a replacement cylinder on five key points: 100 mm bore, 398 mm stroke, PT1/2 port thread, basic (no bracket) mounting, and the absence of a built-in magnet.

At a 398 mm stroke, the 25 mm rod is well-supported within the cylinder, but any significant side loading in the application must be managed. For tasks where the rod experiences lateral forces, use an external linear guide or rod support to prevent bending stress on the rod bearing and premature seal wear.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Required force at your working pressure
  • ✓ Stroke and mounting space
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/NPT/G)
  • ✓ Magnet (-S) for sensors?
  • ✓ Side load — consider a guided cylinder

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.15 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Adjust end cushion screws for smooth stops.
  • check Use correct mounting accessory (FA/FB/CA/CB/LB/TC).
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac SC100 Standard Cylinder SC100X398 FAQ

At the standard operating pressure of 0.5 MPa, the push force is 3927 N. At the maximum operating pressure of 0.9 MPa, the push force increases to 7068 N. The theoretical force at 1.0 MPa is 801 kgf.

No. The AirTAC SC series is a tie-rod cylinder and is physically shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder of the same bore and stroke. It is not dimensionally interchangeable with ISO 15552 mounts. It should only replace another AirTAC SC tie-rod cylinder with matching bore, stroke, PT1/2 ports, and basic mounting.
