About the Airtac SC100 Standard Cylinder SC100X425S

The SC100X425S is a double-acting pneumatic cylinder delivering 3927 N push force at 0.5 MPa and up to 7068 N at the maximum operating pressure of 0.9 MPa. Its 100 mm bore houses a 25 mm diameter piston rod with M20x1.5 male threads, and the 425 mm stroke suits medium-travel clamping, pressing, and material-handling tasks.

This model includes the factory-installed -S magnet, allowing CMSG, DMSG, or EMSG reed and solid-state sensors to be mounted directly on the tie-rod barrel for non-contact position sensing. The adjustable air cushion (29 mm length) decelerates the piston at end-of-stroke, reducing impact noise and wear. Standard PT1/2 ports and TPU seals with an operating range of -20 to +70 °C complete the build.

Where the Airtac SC100 Standard Cylinder SC100X425S Is Used

conveyor_belt

Pallet Stop & Lift Gates

The 425 mm stroke and 3927 N push force at 0.5 MPa reliably raise and lower pallet stops or lift gates in conveyor systems, with the built-in magnet providing end-of-travel confirmation.

compress

Clamping & Pressing Fixtures

Delivers up to 7068 N at 0.9 MPa for holding workpieces during welding, assembly, or machining. Sensor feedback from the -S magnet confirms the clamp is fully engaged before the cycle starts.

warehouse

Baler & Compactor Eject

Used to eject compacted material in small baling machines, where the long 425 mm stroke clears the chamber and the adjustable cushion absorbs the shock of the ejector plate at end-of-stroke.

Is the Airtac SC100 Standard Cylinder SC100X425S the Right Cylinder?

Choose the SC100 bore when your application needs roughly 3900 N of push force at standard plant air pressure. If the load is lighter, stepping down to an SC80 bore (2513 N at 0.5 MPa) saves space and air consumption. For heavier loads, the SC125 bore provides 6136 N at the same pressure.

At 425 mm stroke, the unsupported rod is long enough that side loads or off-centre mounting can cause rod bending and premature bearing wear. Use an external linear guide or a guided cylinder assembly to absorb transverse forces. When replacing an existing unit, match five points: 100 mm bore, 425 mm stroke, PT port thread, the -S magnet for sensor compatibility, and the basic (no bracket) mounting style.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Required force at your working pressure
  • ✓ Stroke and mounting space
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/NPT/G)
  • ✓ Magnet (-S) for sensors?
  • ✓ Side load — consider a guided cylinder

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.15 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Adjust end cushion screws for smooth stops.
  • check Use correct mounting accessory (FA/FB/CA/CB/LB/TC).
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac SC100 Standard Cylinder SC100X425S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa the push force is 3927 N and the pull force is 3681 N. At 0.7 MPa push rises to 5497 N, and at the maximum operating pressure of 0.9 MPa it reaches 7068 N. The theoretical maximum at 1.0 MPa is 801 kgf.

Yes. The -S suffix means a magnetic piston ring is built in at the factory. You can clamp CMSG (reed) or DMSG/EMSG (solid-state) sensors directly onto the tie-rod barrel to detect piston position without any modification.
