About the Airtac SC80 Standard Cylinder SC80X580S

The SC80X580S is a double-acting pneumatic cylinder from the AirTAC SC tie-rod series, combining an 80 mm bore with a 580 mm stroke. It generates 2513 N of push force at 0.5 MPa and up to 4523 N at the maximum operating pressure of 0.9 MPa, driven by a 25 mm diameter piston rod with an M20x1.5 male thread.

This model includes the factory-installed -S magnet, allowing CMSG, DMSG, or EMSG reed and solid-state sensors to clamp directly onto the barrel for non-contact position sensing. The adjustable air cushion at each end is 28 mm long, decelerating the piston smoothly to reduce end-of-stroke impact. The body length A is 182 mm, giving a total extended length of approximately 762 mm.

Where the Airtac SC80 Standard Cylinder SC80X580S Is Used

conveyor_belt

Conveyor Diverter Gate

The 580 mm stroke pushes a diverter gate across a wide conveyor bed. The built-in magnet lets sensors confirm gate position at each end, while the 2513 N force at 0.5 MPa handles heavy product flow.

precision_manufacturing

Panel Clamping Press

Delivers up to 4523 N at 0.9 MPa to clamp large panels during gluing or assembly. The 28 mm adjustable cushion absorbs the energy of the moving platen, protecting the tooling from impact damage.

warehouse

Pallet Stop & Release

Extends a robust stop blade into a gravity roller lane. The 25 mm rod and M20x1.5 thread provide a strong mounting point for the stop, and the magnet sensors integrate with the warehouse control system for sequencing.

Is the Airtac SC80 Standard Cylinder SC80X580S the Right Cylinder?

The SC80 bore sits between the 63 mm (1559 N at 0.5 MPa) and 100 mm (3927 N at 0.5 MPa) sizes. If your load requires more than 2500 N of push force, step up to the SC100; for lighter, faster-moving loads, the SC63 reduces air consumption and weight. At 580 mm stroke, the 25 mm rod is well-supported within the standard stroke range, but avoid direct side loading—an external guide rail or a guided cylinder is recommended if the load is not purely axial.

To replace an existing cylinder, match five points: 80 mm bore, 580 mm stroke, PT1/8 port thread, the built-in magnet (-S), and the basic (no bracket) mounting configuration. This is a tie-rod cylinder, not an ISO 15552 profile, so dimensional interchangeability is limited to another AirTAC SC80 of the same stroke and options.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Required force at your working pressure
  • ✓ Stroke and mounting space
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/NPT/G)
  • ✓ Magnet (-S) for sensors?
  • ✓ Side load — consider a guided cylinder

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.15 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Adjust end cushion screws for smooth stops.
  • check Use correct mounting accessory (FA/FB/CA/CB/LB/TC).
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac SC80 Standard Cylinder SC80X580S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, push force is 2513 N and pull force is 2268 N. At the maximum operating pressure of 0.9 MPa, push force reaches 4523 N. The theoretical maximum at 1.0 MPa is 513 kgf. All forces are based on the 80 mm bore and 25 mm rod.

No. The SC80X580S is a double-acting cylinder and does not lock or hold position when air pressure is exhausted or the directional valve is centered. The piston will drift or drop under load. For load holding without live pressure, you must add an external rod brake, a pilot-operated check valve, or a mechanical lock.
