About the Airtac SC80 Standard Cylinder SC80X780

The AirTAC SC80X780 is a double-acting pneumatic cylinder delivering 2513 N of push force at 0.5 MPa and up to 4523 N at 0.9 MPa, making it suitable for medium-to-heavy linear actuation tasks. Its 780 mm stroke is within the standard range for the 80 mm bore, which supports strokes up to 1500 mm, and the tie-rod construction keeps the overall extended length compact at approximately 962 mm (body length A of 182 mm plus stroke).

This cylinder uses a 25 mm diameter piston rod with an M20x1.5 male thread and a PT3/8 port for air supply. An adjustable air cushion with a 28 mm cushion length decelerates the piston near the end of each stroke, reducing impact and noise. The standard TPU seals provide reliable operation from -20 to +70 °C with filtered air.

Where the Airtac SC80 Standard Cylinder SC80X780 Is Used

conveyor_belt

Material Transfer & Sorting

Pushes heavy totes or boxes off a main conveyor line onto a branch. The 780 mm stroke spans wide belt sections, and the adjustable cushion protects the actuator during high-cycle diverting.

precision_manufacturing

Press-Fit Assembly

Delivers up to 4523 N at 0.9 MPa for pressing bearings, bushings, or pins into housings. The tie-rod design handles repetitive impact-like loads better than profile cylinders in tough assembly cells.

Pallet Dispensing

Extends a long-stroke pusher plate to eject empty pallets from a stack. The 780 mm reach clears the pallet depth completely, and the PT3/8 port provides sufficient flow for a reasonable cycle speed.

Is the Airtac SC80 Standard Cylinder SC80X780 the Right Cylinder?

Choose the SC80 bore when your application needs between roughly 2500 N and 4500 N of force on the push stroke at typical shop air pressures. If your load is lighter (around 1500 N), stepping down to the SC63 bore (1559 N at 0.5 MPa) can reduce air consumption and physical size. For heavier loads exceeding 4500 N, the SC100 bore (3927 N at 0.5 MPa) provides a significant force increase with the same 25 mm rod diameter.

At a 780 mm stroke, the 25 mm rod is extended significantly; any side loading or misalignment can cause rod bending and premature bearing wear. Use an external linear guide or a guided cylinder assembly to absorb transverse forces. When replacing this cylinder, match five key points: 80 mm bore, 780 mm stroke, PT3/8 port thread, basic (no mounting accessory) configuration, and the absence of a built-in magnet.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Required force at your working pressure
  • ✓ Stroke and mounting space
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/NPT/G)
  • ✓ Magnet (-S) for sensors?
  • ✓ Side load — consider a guided cylinder

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.15 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Adjust end cushion screws for smooth stops.
  • check Use correct mounting accessory (FA/FB/CA/CB/LB/TC).
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac SC80 Standard Cylinder SC80X780 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa (approx. 73 psi), the push force is 2513 N and the pull force is 2268 N. At the maximum operating pressure of 0.9 MPa, the push force increases to 4523 N. The theoretical maximum at 1.0 MPa is 513 kgf.

No. The AirTAC SC series is a tie-rod cylinder and is physically shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder of the same bore and stroke. It will not be dimensionally interchangeable. Only replace another AirTAC SC80 tie-rod cylinder with matching bore, stroke, port thread, and mounting.
