AirTAC Pneumatics
AirTAC TSAIM is a double-acting guided cylinder with a bronze-bushing guide frame, spanning 32-100 mm bore and 50-500 mm stroke, built for machines where the rod takes side load or torque.
inventory_2120 models availableTSAIM is AirTAC's guided cylinder built as a guide frame combined with a standard cylinder. Twin guide rods run in the frame and carry the side load and torque, so the piston rod itself is not asked to resist rotation or bending. Bores run 32, 40, 50, 63, 80 and 100 mm with standard strokes of 50 to 500 mm, all double acting, with an adjustable cushion the catalogue notes adjusts smoothly.
The M in the model code is the bearing type: a bronze bushing (sliding bearing). That is the whole reason this collection is separate from TSAIL, which uses a linear bearing in the same frame. The sliding-bushing type suits duty where the cylinder takes a radial load - braking and stopping actions are the catalogue's example - and offers greater torsional rigidity. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi; 1.5-10.0 bar), speed range 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to 70 C, and the medium is air filtered to 40 micron or finer.
Ports are PT thread across the range: PT1/8 on 32 mm bore, PT1/4 on 40 and 50 mm, PT3/8 on 63 and 80 mm, PT1/2 on 100 mm. G thread is available to order, but there is no NPT option in the ordering rules. AirtacDistr stocks 120 SKUs - every bore x stroke combination, 60 of them with the magnet -S option for sensing. The frame body is designed for mounting in several orientations, and the sensor mounting base lets the switch position be moved to suit the machine. Note that the catalogue claims no ISO, JIS or other standard for TSAI, so it should not be treated as interchangeable with a standard-profile cylinder.

A TSAIM80 or TSAIM100 mounted through its multi-orientation frame stops a machined block and clamps it under air pressure while a drilling or milling head works. The guide rods take the radial load of the stop, and the adjustable cushion settles the motion without bounce.
A TSAIM63 or TSAIM50 drives a stopper arm that brakes cartons moving down a packaging conveyor. The bronze bushing tolerates the side load of the arm, and with the magnet -S option a CMSE switch signals when the cylinder - and the stopped carton - is in position.
A TSAIM32 or TSAIM40 on a machine slide or indexing table absorbs the knock at end of travel, where the side load and torque would rotate or bend a plain rod cylinder. Greater torsional rigidity is exactly what the sliding-bearing guide is specified for.
A TSAIM50 with a 300 or 400 mm stroke pushes a machine guard door sideways. The frame carries the door's weight as a radial load, the sensor mounting base lets the switch position be moved to match the door travel, and the double-acting cycle drives open and closed.
Choose TSAIM when the cylinder takes a radial load - braking, stopping, or clamping against a side force - or when torsional rigidity matters more than smooth travel. Choose TSAIL when the duty is lifting or pushing motion, demands high precision and high load capacity, or needs especially low-friction movement. The two are different bearing choices for different loads, not good/better versions. Price follows the same logic: TSAIM runs $207.01 to $892.83 against TSAIL's $227.95 to $925.40. Stroke is restricted to the standard 50-500 mm table for every bore; a stroke outside that list is not a valid ordering code.
Step out of the series when a TSAI is oversized for the job: TMICM gives the same guide-frame idea on a mini cylinder (16-25 mm bore, stroke to 250 mm) from $85.83, and TCM/TCL are integrated twin-rod cylinders reaching down to 6 and 10 mm bore, with the same sliding vs linear bearing split. If you only need the frame, the standalone guide frame is ordered as F-TSAIM... - a different part from the F-TSAI32E/50E/80E sensor mounting bases. Before ordering, confirm five points: bore, stroke from the standard table, port thread (PT stocked, G to order, no NPT), mounting orientation, and whether the magnet -S option is needed. We hold no published force figures for TSAIM, so thrust is confirmed per model.
Quick checklist
Six bores - 32, 40, 50, 63, 80 and 100 mm - with standard strokes of 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 mm (500 mm maximum). Every bore x stroke combination is available with or without the magnet: 120 SKUs in all, 60 with magnet, priced $207.01 to $892.83. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and speed range is 30-500 mm/s. There is no published force table for the series, so thrust is confirmed per model.
The M is the bearing type: TSAIM uses a bronze bushing (sliding bearing), TSAIL a linear bearing in the same frame. The catalogue's own selection logic: the sliding-bearing type suits radial-load duty such as braking and stopping actions and offers greater torsional rigidity; the linear-bearing type suits lifting and pushing motion and duty demanding high precision, high load capacity or especially low friction. They are not interchangeable in a specification, and TSAIM is the cheaper option ($207.01-$892.83 vs $227.95-$925.40).
Order the cylinder with the magnet by adding S to the code (for example TSAIM40X100S). The sensor mounting base is a separate part number chosen by bore: F-TSAI32E for 32 and 40 mm bores, F-TSAI50E for 50 and 63 mm, F-TSAI80E for 80 and 100 mm. Compatible sensor series are CMSE and DMSE. A magnet-equipped cylinder is supplied with two sensor mounting bases, and the base lets the switch position be moved along the machine. Do not confuse these bases with F-TSAIM... standalone guide frames, which are frames without a cylinder.
Port thread is fixed by bore: PT1/8 on 32 mm, PT1/4 on 40 and 50 mm, PT3/8 on 63 and 80 mm, PT1/2 on 100 mm. Every AirtacDistr SKU is PT; G thread is available to order - ask us. There is no NPT option in the ordering rules. The catalogue claims no standard for TSAI - it is not stated as ISO 15552, ISO 6432 or JIS - so it cannot be treated as a drop-in for a standard-profile cylinder. If you need to check a stroke, cushion setting or any dimension, confirm from the datasheet or send us an RFQ; all 120 PT SKUs are genuine AirTAC parts.
